The exhibition is barrier-low and offers not only adult visitors comprehensive insights into the prehistory of our planet.
Selected exhibits are displayed outside the showcases, with the idea of making the development of life tangible for children in the truest sense of the word.
Beginning with meteorites and 3.4 billion year old stromatolites, the exhibition leads through the Palaeozoic era and shows a selection of nautiloids, corals and trilobites. In the following Mesozoic, sea lilies, brittle stars, ceratites from the Muschelkalk, ammonites from the Jurassic and original fossils of dinosaurs from the Cretaceous.
In the Cenozoic era large sea urchins from the Tertiary (new: Paleogene), fossils from the Messel Pit, amber and much more, including Ice Age mammoth teeth, the head of a woolly rhinoceros, a complete cave bear and Stone Age tools.
